Silversun Pickups
Silversun Pickups is an American alternative rock band hailing from Los Angeles, formed in 2000. They made their debut with the Pikul EP in 2005, followed by their first full-length album, Carnavas, in 2006. The band’s sophomore release, Swoon, arrived in 2009, and was succeeded by Neck of the Woods in 2012. Their fourth studio album, Better Nature, dropped in 2015, followed by Widow’s Weeds in 2019. Most recently, they released their sixth album, Physical Thrills, on August 19, 2022.
Early on, Silversun Pickups became known for their shoegaze-inspired sound, characterized by dense layers of distorted guitars and multiple overdubs. Their style often draws comparisons to bands like The Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine.
In December 2022, they released two new singles: “David Lynch Has a Painting Made of Flies Eyes,” a collaboration with producer Butch Vig under the moniker SSVU, and a cover of Low’s holiday classic, “Just Like Christmas.” In June 2023, they followed up with a three-track EP, Acoustic Thrills, featuring stripped-down versions of songs from Physical Thrills, including “Scared Together,” “Empty Nest,” and “Alone on a Hill.” A month later, the band shared their cover of Joe Jackson’s “I’m the Man,” recorded for Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer and featured in the trailer for its second season.
